I know hospitals are supposed to be safe places and I honestly was making myself sick with fear about going. When I got there, they asked me questions at the door. They asked if I had been in contact with anyone who had been positive if I had traveled or had any symptoms. I knew I had not but I was worried about those inside waiting about not telling the truth or them honestly having it and not showing signs. I was also worried about the nurses and docs themselves. I was taken in right away and had my port accessed and was given meds and had my blood sent to the lab. They came back kind of ehh. They showed I did have an infection and a kidney stone. They also did a CT SCAN and they saw a small one. I was happy that I was not septic and that my pain was and could be explained. The doctor had seen me several times and told me that I needed to really be aware and cognizant of COVID. He said that because I was immune suppressed and couldn’t fight this infection for almost a year that he did not like my odds. He was telling me things I was already very aware of! I know he was doing what he thought was right, but I think as a professional patient I know my risks and am aware of how this virus could harm me. Overall, I got home and showered and went to bed. I survived the ER visit but hope to not go back during these dark times!
