I love my Perry the Platypus (Power Port, what I named mine ;). It really helps when I need blood draws, fluids, meds, and even be able to do all of this from home! Being home always has a sense of comfort, which to me helps, almost, aids in feeling better. My point of this post is to talk about how this is supposed to make it easier for ME. Why do some nurses always miss??? The pain of them missing is such a different kind of pain. I saw an Instagram post where the girl was in this hospital and was talking about the same thing. I can 110% relate to that level of depression and pain it leaves you feeling. Mine caused me so much pain and discomfort when I got it put in. I had some allergic reaction leaving me with this hive rash all over my neck. My doctor thought my body was rejecting the port. Turned out I was allergic to the Cholra Prep!! Who would have thought, CLEANING SOLUTION???? With all that said and done and two years later I am much happier with it. My newest struggle is the tape. I seem to get rashes and it also has to do with the needles. Some have these massive wings and then others are small with no wings. If I have to have it in for more than a few hours I definitely prefer no wings, yeah it might be easier to pull out after but it is so uncomfortable. What do y’all prefer? Have y’all had any allergies to your port?
*here are the two needles I am talking about ,the 2nd picture is my rash and the 3rd is my Perry my port;)*
